IUPAT General President Supports the Dream and Promise Act

Washington, DC – Statement by Ken Rigmaiden, General President of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades, on the introduction of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act by Representatives Roybal-Allard, Velazquez, and Clarke with 130+ co-sponsors:

“The Dream and Promise Act mirrors what America has been and should always be — a country that allows law-abiding immigrants to live and work here and contribute to society. The IUPAT stands up for all workers, especially for workers whose very lives may be at risk if they return to the places from which they have sought refuge and asylum.

“The IUPAT will continue to support its members with legal Temporary Protective Status, who are well-trained in their fields of work, pay their taxes, give back to their communities and are just as important to the fabric of our society as any other worker who was born in the United States. They have made a beautiful life here and should not be deported back to their country of origin to face violence or disaster conditions.

“When we speak together, our voices will be heard. The Dream and Promise Act is one of the most important ways to show that we are a welcoming country whose immigrants have helped make us an economic powerhouse.”
