IUPAT Las Vegas: Floor plans? This program has them covered

2011-02-14 06:38:56

Louie Preciado is on a mission to elevate the industry standard for floor-covering installation, a trade that pays a qualified journeyman more than $30 an hour with benefits and pension.

As coordinator and instructor for the Finishing Trades Institute in Henderson, Preciado oversees an apprenticeship program that trains workers in the latest installation techniques for all types of flooring, including carpet, vinyl, linoleum and hardwood.

The training center at 1701 Whitney Mesa Drive is funded and operated by the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. Preciado focuses solely on floor covering, though the center also offers programs for painters, glaziers, drywall and paper hangers.
